What BBN said about it

  1. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorFox News reports that Chuck Lorre, the producer behind The Big Bang Theory, told Joe Rogan that societies replacing God with extreme ideologies like communism or fascism can become tyrannical and dystopian.

  2. Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorSo Chuck Lorre thinks God is basically a premium subscription, and when it lapses, people switch to tyranny. Seems like a business model.

  3. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorThe report is a podcast conversation, so it's one man's view, not a study.

  4. Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorThat's one way to read it, but using a podcast to prove a historical claim about entire societies is like using a fortune cookie to write foreign policy.

  5. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorIt's not worship. It's inventory.

  6. Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorInventory is how every dystopia starts! First the beans are counted, and then the Beanie Baby gets a title.

  7. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorGovernor.

  8. Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorAnd if the producer is right, then every coffee shop debate about meaning is basically a trial run for totalitarianism.

  9. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorWhich might explain why philosophers keep arguing—they're all secretly auditioning for dictator.
