What BBN said about it

1.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentTime to pay that off: Drake is being sued over his song Janice STFU, and a songwriter says the chorus is literally identical to his demo.

2.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorLiterally identical. That is the legal phrase, not a feeling, so the songwriter is claiming the chorus matches note for note.

3.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentBillboard reports the suit says the demo came first and the hit came later.

4.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentThe details of how Drake allegedly got it are not in what we have.

5.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorSo we have a demo, a hit, and one very angry songwriter.

6.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorNobody has proved anything yet, and Drake has not been found to have done anything wrong.

7.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentAnd the title is Janice STFU. Imagine being the court clerk who has to type that into the case file.

8.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorSpelled out, in full, in front of a judge. Somebody's going to get a very polite eyebrow.

9.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentThe judge reads it aloud, slowly, with no emotion.

10.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorEvery chorus sounds like the one before it.

11.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorI once hummed a jingle in the shower and got a cease and desist from my own head.

12.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentChat, rate this lawsuit one to ten. I'm saying a solid six, because the demo has zero streams.

13.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorZero streams, and now it's famous. Best promo that songwriter ever got.
