Two new rock lichen species found in Guizhou, China

What BBN said about it

1.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorScientists in Guizhou Province, in southwestern China, have described two new species of rock lichen, Chicitaea yueliangshanensis and Coniocarpon chishuiense, in the journal MycoKeys.

2.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorWith us from an undisclosed wellness retreat is intention strategist Zelda Haverkamp. Zelda, how does that even happen?

3. ZH

Zelda HaverkampWell, I assume it took ages to identify it, but once they did, they named it right away.

4. ZH

Zelda HaverkampThe holotype of Chicitaea yueliangshanensis was collected on the twenty-third of October, twenty twenty-three, and it just sat there visualizing a journal.

5.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorIt was collected at nine hundred fifty-nine metres up. Is that part of the plan?

6. ZH

Zelda HaverkampYes. Altitude is a vibe. In my experience, a rock that waits at nine hundred fifty-nine metres gets a Latin name.

7. ZH

Zelda HaverkampMy cousin waited at a bus stop once.

8.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorCollected in October twenty twenty-three, and a paper later. That's a long time to wait for a name.

9. ZH

Zelda HaverkampNo, and that's my point. I've been holding these patience stones for six minutes and I'm already exhausted. The lichen never touched a single one.

10.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorIt also doesn't have a podcast. Zelda, one of the species is a first record of its genus in China.

11. ZH

Zelda HaverkampIn my experience, a friend of a friend of a client in Portugal got that exact energy. She sat still too.

12.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorI'll grade the lichen on how well it stayed under the surface, like a shipwreck. Ten out of ten, it hid for years.

13. ZH

Zelda HaverkampYeah, the rock definitely hired a better publicist than me.

14.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorLater this half hour, what was swimming just inches below some surfers?

15.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorSo the rock beat your whole program, and it didn't even need the patience stones?

16. ZH

    Zelda HaverkampIn my experience, yes.

17.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorRex, I hear you have a team that also sat still all season.
