PG&E may cut power to 70,000 customers in 29 counties

What BBN said about it

1.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentMarguerite Tolliver runs a lantern and wick co-op in Fresno, and she joins us as PG&E may cut power to seventy thousand customers in twenty-nine California counties this week.

2.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentSo, Marguerite, seventy thousand customers could lose power. What do you tell the people who just want their fridge to stay cold?

3. MT

Marguerite TolliverWe don't say blackout here, Kenji. We say rest period.

4. MT

Marguerite TolliverSeventy thousand households are about to get a free, unplugged evening, and frankly, people pay good money for that at retreats.

5.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentBut the fridge, though. Nobody is booking a retreat for their frozen pizza.

6. MT

Marguerite TolliverThe pizza is also resting. And the lighting in here is intentional, by the way.

7. MT

Marguerite TolliverIt's a warm, flickering ambience, and it comes from a single candle shaped like a seven.

8.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentA seven.

9.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentYour office is on birthday candles. You sell lanterns for a living, and the only light on this call is a seven from a cake.

10. MT

Marguerite TolliverIt's a showroom, Kenji. And the lighting in here is intentional.

11. MT

Marguerite TolliverI have the whole box, forty-eight candles, mostly pink, and the pink ones are for the emergency wing.

12.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentThe emergency wing is a shelf, isn't it?

13. MT

Marguerite TolliverIt is a floating shelf, which is premium.

14. MT

Marguerite TolliverLook, the dark is an amenity, and we have already planned the cake for when the power comes back. Chocolate.

15.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentYou scheduled a cake for the blackout. Marguerite, is the candle the only thing keeping this interview on the air?

16. MT

Marguerite TolliverAbsolutely not. And the lighting in here is intentional, so if my picture goes dark, that is simply a rest period for the viewers.
