Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorBloomberg reports a Canadian utility megamerger is set to create a company worth seventy-two billion Canadian dollars.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorJoining us from his bunker is prepper Wendell Gorse of the Last Switch Institute.
Wendell GorseHank, thanks for having me. Two power companies become one power company. That's one switch to flip instead of two.
Wendell GorseI've been saying this since my generator started talking.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorBloomberg's angle is that this could reshape North American energy infrastructure and the regulatory landscape. Why does that confirm your fears?
Wendell GorseBecause big things fall harder. I keep forty-one gallons of pickle brine in my bunker for when the grid goes. Nobody listens. Dale listens.
Wendell GorseDale sends me tea.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorI'll note Dale is a fan. Mr. Gorse, is a bigger utility not arguably more stable? That's an opinion, but it's a popular one.
Wendell GorseStable like a tower of pancakes, Hank. One sneeze from a regulator and the whole stack slides into the lake.
Wendell GorseI sleep in a hazmat suit now.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorHas the suit helped with anything? Besides, I assume, a very specific smell?
Wendell GorseIt smells like victory and soup, Hank. I'm never leaving. My mother brings me sandwiches through the vent. Please send help and also a toaster.
