What BBN said about it

1.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorFolks, the fifty-third Daytime Emmy Awards were held at the Hollywood Palladium, and the red carpet preshow was scheduled to start at seven p. m. Eastern.

2.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorTalking point number one. Seven p. m. That's dinner. That's the evening news.

3.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorThat's the hour when the daytime people are, by any sane definition, off the clock.

4.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorTalking point number two. The ceremony kicked off at eight Eastern, which is evening anywhere.

5.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorWe call it the Daytime Emmys, and we start it after the sun goes down.

6.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorAnd the cast of General Hospital showed up. The Young and the Restless showed up. Days of our Lives showed up.

7.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorAt night. Steve Burton brought his wife, Michelle, two years after their red carpet debut, and nobody asked either of them what time it was.

8.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorTalking point number three.

9.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorExtra streamed the carpet on the Emmys YouTube channel, so you could watch the daytime Emmys at night, on your phone, in bed.

10.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorI'll give it a verdict: seven p. m. is not daytime. Come on.

11.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorFifty-three years of Daytime Emmys, and the only one working daytime hours at this network is nobody. I do overnights.
