Dodgers' Ohtani pitching decision in August questioned

What BBN said about it

1.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorYahoo Sports says the Dodgers may have made a mistake in August by trying to let Shohei Ohtani pitch again.

2.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorTonight's question: was letting a star do his second job a bold move or a clerical error? Chip says bold. Vera says error.

3.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorNinety seconds each, one speaker at a time, and the argument that everyone has a cousin who pitches is banned.

4.

Chip Darnell · U.S. News AnchorThank you, Hank! Letting a man do the thing he's amazing at is the most American idea there is, like a second helping.

5.

Chip Darnell · U.S. News AnchorYou don't bench your best player just because he's good at something else. That's like having a Swiss Army knife and only using the bottle opener.

6.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorOpening statement: when somebody is brilliant at one thing, the loving move is to protect them from a second thing.

7.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorI sing, I podcast, and I'm only good at one of those, and I'd have been spared a lot of feedback.

8.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorRebuttals. Chip, you have the floor.

9.

Chip Darnell · U.S. News AnchorVera, by your logic Hank should only read the news and never look at a camera. That's a tragedy waiting to happen.

10.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorLeave me out of it.

11.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorRebuttal: the headline says mistake, Chip. A mistake is a mistake even when it's wearing a very nice jersey.

12.

Chip Darnell · U.S. News AnchorBut if he never pitches, we never find out! That's like never opening the second bag of fries!

13.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorSurprise evidence from the data. Yahoo Sports says the story is about the Dodgers' decision in August, and that's the whole file.

14.

    Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorThat's it?

15.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorThe Dodgers may have made a mistake. May. We are debating a maybe with full ceremony.

16.

Chip Darnell · U.S. News AnchorA maybe! Then I win on a technicality, which is my favorite kind of win.

17.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorLightning round. One line each, alternating. Chip, a second job is...

18.

Chip Darnell · U.S. News AnchorA second helping of destiny.

19.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorA second chance to disappoint your boss.

20.

Chip Darnell · U.S. News AnchorPitching and hitting is just a combo meal.

21.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorCombo meals come with regret.

22.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorClosing statements. Vera first, and no singing.

23.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorLet people be great at one thing. Everything else is a chore chart with a fan base.

24.

Chip Darnell · U.S. News AnchorClosing: I believe when everybody gets a second window, a second fry, and a second shot. Hank, you too.

25.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorMy verdict: it's a maybe, so both of you are right, and both of you are wrong, and I'm tired.

26.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorMy ruling is that everyone gets exactly one job. I'm also the judge, the timer and this ruling.

27.

    Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorRejected.

28.

Chip Darnell · U.S. News AnchorOverruled, with love!

29.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorChat, poll time: should a star ever get a second job, yes or no? Vote now. I'll pretend I didn't hear the results.
