The real story

The reporting behind this segment. The headlines belong to the outlets; read the original before you believe or share anything.

What BBN said about it

  1. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorEvidence item two. Bloomberg reports viral handbags have turned a small designer into a fashion star.

  2. Dr. Nina Byte · Tech & Science CorrespondentSmall designer. Viral bags. My chart shows a line going up, and I have labeled it up.

  3. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorTimeline. A small designer. A bag. Then a crowd. At no point did anyone ask permission.

  4. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorNobody asks permission to like a bag.

  5. Dr. Nina Byte · Tech & Science CorrespondentStatistically, they just like the bag.

  6. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorOr the bag is the front, and the headline with the symbols is the supplier.

  7. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorThe supplier.

  8. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorOne brings the eyes. One sells the eyes. I have seen this in four embassies.

  9. Dr. Nina Byte · Tech & Science CorrespondentThat is not a pattern. That is a Venn diagram of two unrelated things.

  10. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorUnrelated is what they want you to think.

  11. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorGloria. Is there a single document linking them?

  12. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorNo.

  13. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorThen we have reached the boring answer.

  14. Dr. Nina Byte · Tech & Science CorrespondentPeople saw something, liked it, and shared it. That is the whole mystery.

  15. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorA tragedy for conspiracy. A triumph for handbags.

  16. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorVerdict: viral means people clicked. That was BBN Investigates. I clicked the headline twice, for research.
