What BBN said about it

  1. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorA raw cheddar from one company is under recall, and it shipped to Maryland and Virginia.

  2. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorImelda Strakosh runs a market in Frederick, Maryland, and she joins us now. Imelda, do you have this cheese?

  3. Imelda StrakoshYes, I had it on the shelf Saturday. I've pulled it.

  4. Imelda StrakoshOne more thing, I've got it right here in oven mitts, because I don't trust it.

  5. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorTesting in Maryland found two strains of E. coli in samples of the company's raw cheddar. That's what triggered the recall.

  6. Imelda StrakoshThat's the part I read first. Then I read a different version, so now I don't know which one I'm supposed to be scared of.

  7. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorFair. An early Food Safety News report named the strain as O157:H7 and listed two states. The FDA notice was updated to correct the strain.

  8. Imelda StrakoshWrong bacteria, and two states. So the warning about the cheese needed a warning. One more thing, I almost threw out the wrong cheese.

  9. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorThe company says it may have reached other states through downstream distributors. So how do you check your own shelf?

  10. Imelda StrakoshI'm reading lot numbers with a flashlight, in the back, at six in the morning. One more thing, my cat is also reading them.

  11. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorYour cat.

  12. Imelda StrakoshShe's very interested in the cheese. I said no.

  13. Imelda StrakoshThe company says to throw it out or return it for a refund, and I'm doing both.

  14. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorAnd if a customer already bought a wedge? Do they bring it back to you?

  15. Imelda StrakoshYes, bring it back, and I'll give them the refund. I'd just like one notice that stays the same all day.

  16. Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorImelda, thank you. Keep the mitts on. Brock has the forecast, and nobody has corrected it yet.
