What BBN said about it
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorTonight, the whole story. This is BBN Investigates, and our subject began with a livestream late on a Friday night.
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorPori Moni went live on Facebook on October sixteenth. The next morning she deleted it, and she wrote, quote, Oops, sorry, I deleted it.
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorGood evening.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorA deleted video and a good evening.
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorAgamir Somoy reports she pointed at the shoe cabinet behind her and said the shoes there were real. Remember that cabinet.
Dr. Nina Byte · Tech & Science CorrespondentI have charts. Nobody will like them, but I have them.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorWho started this, Gloria? Who benefits?
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorShe says people sent her the same video on WhatsApp, one to one and a half years earlier. That is our timeline.
Dr. Nina Byte · Tech & Science CorrespondentSo the video is older than most of my houseplants, and it still trended. My chart shows that clearly. The chart is a circle.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorA circle.
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorThen comes the second document. New Age reports hackers took over Maasranga Television's verified Instagram handle on a Monday night.
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorThey uploaded five unauthorised posts. Those included explicit, face-swapped deepfake videos aimed at Pori Moni and Mehazabien Chowdhury.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorFace-swapped fakes. Posted from a verified account, which is the part people trust.
Dr. Nina Byte · Tech & Science CorrespondentVerified means the platform checked who owns the account. It does not mean the account is hard to steal. Different thing entirely.
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorMaasranga Television says its account was hacked. Pori Moni mentioned an apology card.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorAnd the card landed how?
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorPori Moni said the apology card is of absolutely no use. I have reviewed ransom notes with better reception.
Dr. Nina Byte · Tech & Science CorrespondentI measured the card's usefulness. The bar is empty. I drew the bar myself.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorWho should be accountable here?
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorHer words: a responsible organisation cannot avoid accountability when such a video is published through its account.
Dr. Nina Byte · Tech & Science CorrespondentWhich brings us to the rabbit hole. Observer BD says she mentioned Hajj posts, where people comment asking for her link.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorUnder posts about Hajj.
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorYes. Strangers ask for a link beneath a pilgrimage post. That is how far this travels.
Dr. Nina Byte · Tech & Science CorrespondentMeanwhile a post on X from October fourteenth showed sixty-nine point nine thousand views, about a different creator's rumoured video.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorTwo videos. Two creators. One internet.
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorAnd a blog says the second one passed four hundred forty million views, from an original text it does not name.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorGloria, who holds the leash on all of this?
Gloria Vance · World News AnchorThe leash rule is for later. First, the shoe cabinet. The shoes there were real, and I intend to check.
