Mamdani's NYPD force review draws fire from critics and allies

What BBN said about it

1.

Gloria Vance · World News AnchorNew York's mayor has ordered the NYPD to review its use-of-force policies, the first such review in a decade, and the reaction is already split.

2.

Gloria Vance · World News AnchorThe Washington Post says the order is riling critics and supporters alike. The AP reports that progressives are calling for greater change than a review.

3.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorSo the people who wanted a fire alarm got a smoke detector, and the people who feared a fire alarm think it's a fire alarm.

4.

Gloria Vance · World News AnchorA review writes nothing into law. It sets out what the policy says now, and what it could say later.

5.

Gloria Vance · World News AnchorBoth camps are reading it as a signal.

6.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorI said earlier it was a smoke detector, and I stand by that.

7.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorThough I'll admit a smoke detector is the first thing you'd want in the building.

8.

Gloria Vance · World News AnchorI have watched reviews like this in six capitals. Most of them end up as a binder.

9.

   Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorA binder?

10.

Gloria Vance · World News AnchorA very thick binder, Vera. Usually with a nice cover.

11.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorFine, but binders can be opened. That's the whole point of a binder.
