What BBN said about it

  1. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorThe Washington Post reports that Trump administration officials scrutinized Representative Ilhan Omar's citizenship in twenty nineteen, and that they did not find any citizenship issues.

  2. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorJoining us from Brainerd, Minnesota, is Lorraine Szymanski, who owns a notary and tax preparation office and checks people's documents for a living.

  3. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorThanks for being here.

  4. Lorraine SzymanskiHappy to be up past my bedtime. I'm not political, but I do like a file that checks out.

  5. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorSo when officials look into someone's citizenship and find no issues, what does that look like on your side of the desk?

  6. Lorraine SzymanskiIt looks like a Tuesday. You check the papers, they match, you stamp it, and everybody goes to lunch.

  7. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorOfficials spent time on this in twenty nineteen. How long would the check take you?

  8. Lorraine SzymanskiFour minutes, and that's with the stapler jamming. I'm not political, but if it took longer, somebody wasn't looking for paper.

  9. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorFour minutes.

  10. Lorraine SzymanskiFive if the customer brings the wrong folder. I'm not political, but I've never needed a task force to read a birth certificate.

  11. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorI've been in embassies where that would have been a very long afternoon. But the finding here was that there were no citizenship issues.

  12. Lorraine SzymanskiThen the file was clean the whole time.

  13. Lorraine SzymanskiI'm not political, but at some point you just hand the folder back and say sorry for the wait.

  14. Gloria Vance · World News AnchorLast question, Lorraine. If you had been handed that file in twenty nineteen, how long would it have taken you?

  15. Lorraine SzymanskiFour minutes. Stamped.
