Brundle calls Hamilton's Singapore pit call 'bizarre'

What BBN said about it

1.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorMartin Brundle has called Lewis Hamilton's Singapore pit call bizarre, and with us tonight is Yevgenia Hollowell, who speaks for the team that made it.

2. YH

Yevgenia HollowellThank you, Hank. Bizarre is one word, and we prefer bold, which is also one word, so I think we've met in the middle.

3.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorSo let me ask you, who decided to make the call, and what was the reasoning at that moment on the pit wall?

4. YH

Yevgenia HollowellWell, the data was very emotional at that point, and the call came out of a place of real feeling. I pressed the stopwatch there.

5.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorThe data was emotional.

6. YH

Yevgenia HollowellDeeply. By the second lap it was practically weeping, and when data weeps, you listen. That's just good racing.

7.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorBut you didn't answer the question. Which person on your team said the words that sent Hamilton in?

8. YH

Yevgenia HollowellIt was a collective moment, Hank, and the data had grown quite protective of the tyres, so I'd say it led us. Why is this stopwatch warm?

9.

   Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorWarm.

10. YH

Yevgenia HollowellIt's been in a lot of meetings. I won't say it was in the meeting, but it was nearby, and it was upset.

11.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorSo if the data was upset and the stopwatch was nearby, then the only witness to Brundle's bizarre call is a stopwatch.

12. YH

Yevgenia HollowellI'd say it was present. Calling it a witness makes it sound like it saw anything, and it has no hands, really.

13.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorThen I'd like to put the question to the stopwatch directly. Please press it.

14. YH

Yevgenia HollowellPressed. It stopped. No further comment.
