What BBN said about it
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorOn to the war in Ukraine tonight, where the top U.S. and NATO commander is promising to thwart Moscow and also warning Kyiv about its refinery strikes.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorLola Cruz is on it.
Lola Cruz · Senior Field CorrespondentI'm standing outside a closed fuel depot tonight, Hank, where the only power still on is these floodlights behind me.
Lola Cruz · Senior Field CorrespondentThe commander made two promises today: that NATO will stand in Moscow's way, and that Ukraine should think hard about hitting refineries.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorSo he's warning both sides.
Lola Cruz · Senior Field CorrespondentThat's how the Washington Post reads it, an evolving strategy, with a firm line for Russia and a cautionary one for an ally.
Lola Cruz · Senior Field CorrespondentNo details yet on what the caution actually means in practice, and that part is unclear.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorIt sounds like a lecture from the front seat of a minivan, with both kids in the back and nobody owning up to who poked the refinery.
Lola Cruz · Senior Field CorrespondentThe difference, Hank, is that nobody in this minivan has a pump price riding on the answer.
Lola Cruz · Senior Field CorrespondentThe watch item is whether Kyiv changes course, and what Moscow tries next.
Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorAnd the lecture always ends with the threat to turn the car around, which no commander has ever done.
