What BBN said about it

1.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentJay-Z played the first of two nights at SoFi Stadium, and brought out Blue Ivy Carter, DJ Khaled and John Legend.

2.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentWith me is Gustavo Ibarra, who runs the Western Stadium Headliner Council.

3. GI

Gustavo IbarraThrilled to be here, Kenji. Great night, great stadium, and a very rigorous process got us a great headliner.

4.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentSo how does the council pick a headliner?

5. GI

Gustavo IbarraWe consulted widely. We asked the person we felt knew the music best, and that is the one person we asked.

6.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentPuck News reports Jay-Z chose himself to headline Super Bowl sixty-one, over Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber. Is that the process?

7. GI

Gustavo IbarraI can't speak to that report. But I'll say our ballot, which I keep here, is very clean.

8.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentThere's one name on it.

9. GI

Gustavo IbarraA focused ballot. We consulted widely on it, and by widely I mean the man standing closest to the pen.

10.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentDid Miley or Justin at least get a call?

11. GI

Gustavo IbarraMentioned is a real honor. Miley was mentioned twice. Justin once, but loudly.

12.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentOkay, so the verdict: this process is a one-person vote.

13.

Kenji Moonfield · Internet & Trends CorrespondentI asked who else voted, and he said the turnout was very strong at one hundred percent.
