What BBN said about it

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorA federal judge in Brooklyn has dismissed the Trump administration's lawsuit over New York City's sanctuary laws, ruling that the government had no valid basis to sue.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorJudge Ramon Reyes said Washington cannot challenge a city law that restricts police from detaining immigrants. With me is Ignacio Tambunan, a Brooklyn locksmith.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorMr. Tambunan, what did you make of it?
Ignacio TambunanI'm just a locksmith, Hank, so I'll say this carefully. The government sued over a door it never had the key to.
Ignacio TambunanI see that every Tuesday.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorThe judge said the city is allowed to limit how its police cooperate. Does that match what you see on your side of the counter?
Ignacio TambunanI'm just a locksmith, but yes. You can't sue me because I didn't open your neighbor's door for you. I can simply decline.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorSo the lawsuit asked the building to hold its own door open.
Ignacio TambunanAnd then complained about the draft. I'm just a locksmith, Hank, but a judge reading that complaint must have jingled a lot of keys.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorLet me ask you plainly. Do you have an opinion on this case, or don't you?
Ignacio TambunanI'm just a locksmith.
Ignacio TambunanI have no opinion. Except the city was right, the lawsuit was backwards, and somebody owes the court a refund on the paper.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorNo opinion.
Ignacio TambunanNone. I'm only qualified to say who holds the key, and it wasn't them.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorThen I'll take that as a ruling. What do you charge for it?
Ignacio TambunanThe first opinion is free, Hank. The second one costs a key.

Hank Ledger · Lead AnchorIgnacio Tambunan, thanks. Sports is next, and Rex, I assume you're ready to sue the scoreboard.
