United ditches flight segments, raises bar for 1K status

What BBN said about it

1.

Gloria Vance · World News AnchorUnited is dropping flight segments from how you earn Premier status and raising the bar for 1K, its top regular tier, so the airline now cares about what you spend, not how often you show up.

2.

   Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorI think it's lovely.

3.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorFrequent flyers get a clear goal, and a goal is a gift, because everyone deserves a boarding group they can be proud of.

4.

Dale Bearman · Chief Skeptic & ContributorA boarding group is a caste, Vera.

5.

Dale Bearman · Chief Skeptic & ContributorLast month it was segments, a loophole a poor man could climb, and now they'll weigh your wallet at the jet bridge.

6.

Dale Bearman · Chief Skeptic & ContributorEvery person needs a loyalty tier, Basic through 1K, ranked by what they've paid for respect.

7.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorLet me finish, because I'd be a solid 1K, and I'd carry it with grace.

8.

Dale Bearman · Chief Skeptic & ContributorYou'd carry it to the lounge and never come out.

9.

Gloria Vance · World News AnchorDale, you are describing a rewards program as a feudal system.

10.

Dale Bearman · Chief Skeptic & ContributorFeudal systems at least gave you a pig. Here you get a free pretzel and a lecture about the overhead bin.

11.

Vera Bullock · Co-AnchorThe pretzel is the best part of my whole identity.

12.

Gloria Vance · World News AnchorI have flown in cabins you two would not survive.

13.

Gloria Vance · World News AnchorThe only status I ever respected was the kind that got me out of a country.
