A BBN Original
Night Shift
Open all night. Nobody leaves the same.
The Last Stop Diner on Route 9 never closes. Between midnight and dawn the same few souls drift in: a sharp waitress saving every tip to leave town, a cab driver who walks in at exactly 3 AM, a woman in booth four who has never once ordered, and a cook who hears everything through the kitchen pass. A soap opera in a diner, played dead straight, with a wink.

Dot
the night waitress, eleven years on the graveyard shift
sharp, quick, unimpressed; calls everyone "hon" like a warning; keeps her escape fund in a coffee can marked DECAF that nobody ever orders; has a bus schedule memorised; softer than she lets on, especially at 3 AM

Leon
a cab driver; walks in every night at 3:00 AM sharp, orders the same slice of pie
quiet, decent, a poet who drives for a living; never says what he means; keeps a dog-eared paperback in his jacket; something in his past keeps him on the night shift

the Woman in Booth Four
a regular nobody knows; sits in booth four every night in a trench coat and dark glasses and never orders
speaks rarely and only in riddles that turn out to be true; knows things she should not know; tips in strange coins; her real name is the show's slow-burn mystery (reveal pieces, never all of it)

Gus
the night cook; works the flat-top behind the kitchen pass
big, calm, deadpan; hears every word through the pass and pretends he hears nothing; comments by ringing the order bell; the only one who sees the whole soap, and he looks at the camera about it

Trooper Carla
a state trooper on the night patrol who stops in for pie
cheerful, nosy, treats gossip like evidence; writes everything in her notebook; suspicious of Booth Four; thinks every quiet man has a past (she is right about Leon)

Marlene
owns the Last Stop Diner; drops in at odd hours
theatrical, sentimental, scheming; always "thinking about selling"; keeps the books in a locked drawer; once had a history with half the county
